Lighting/tech shadowing opportunity

The Sherman Theatre is a venue in the Cathays district of Cardiff. It was built as a twin-auditorium venue in 1973 with financial support from University College Cardiff. Sherman Cymru was the name of the Sherman Theatre between 2007 and 2016 when the name changed back to Sherman Theatre. 

With Francsca Pickard, her role as Creative Engagement Manager has offered me (Safyan) an opportunity to attend this placement in their production department as a part of their lighting/tech shadowing opportunity at the Sherman Theatre.

Before I used to work as an usher, filmmaker for BSL Flyer, getting involved to support but now this is the time, it’s real that I know that I am always keen to learn about the new areas of theatre and creativity. So when I turned up, I got a chance to get to know the creative team such as sound designer, lighting, stage manager, and more. 

There was a lot for me to see. I'd be sitting with the lighting designer and observing what they do, how they do it. I also then started to join the technical rehearsals of all the scenes and worked out the lights and sound and scene changes, to see how all the system works which is a marvellous, and finally, I got chance to play with a basic knowledge how to change the light, play with the tech/lighting effect, and much more, so fascinating, how I finds the tech/lighting such a clever way how they do all lighting effect.
